About NJIA

A pathway to possibility.

Women-led. Community-driven. Committed to a more just and inclusive future.

Who we are

Rooted in Uganda. Working for change.

Njia Ya Wanawake Initiatives Ltd (NJIA) is a women-led, non-profit development organisation established in 2023 and based in Kampala, Uganda. We advance women's economic empowerment, health and climate justice through community-led action, policy advocacy, access to information, skills development and the promotion of climate-resilient livelihoods.

We work with and for women and girls who are most often left behind, including those living with HIV, adolescent girls and young women, refugees, persons with disabilities, and communities that remain underserved.

Our vision

What we believe is possible.

A just and inclusive society in which all women and girls are empowered, protected and able to access the knowledge, skills, services and resources they need to thrive, free from discrimination and from health and gender-based harm.

Our mission

How we move forward.

To transform the lives of women and girls by expanding access to economic opportunity, improving health and well-being, and advancing climate justice initiatives that promote resilience, equality and sustainable livelihoods.

Our values

The principles behind our work.

01

Dignity and Inclusion

We place women and girls at the centre of every decision and programme.

02

Integrity and Accountability

We are transparent, answerable to the communities we serve and to our partners, and prudent with every resource entrusted to us.

03

Community Ownership

We design and deliver programmes with communities, not merely for them.

04

Excellence and Evidence

We use data, evidence and learning to guide our decisions and demonstrate results.

05

Collaboration

We build alliances with governments, civil society, the private sector and development partners.

06

Sustainability

We design solutions that protect people and the planet for generations to come.

Where we work

Kampala is our base. Communities are our focus.

NJIA is based in Kampala, Uganda. Our community work includes Kole District.

NJIA applies a community-led, rights-based and evidence-driven approach. We combine direct services at village level with policy engagement at district and national level, so that the lives of individual women improve while the systems around them become fairer.
